When a thirty year old finally decides to be responsible.

I started reading Acts this week. It’s a good one.

It didn’t take long for me to learn something. In the first couple of chapters, I read about when the disciples had to raise up somebody else to take that punk, Judas’ place. Their options were Justus and Matthias because these two had been following Jesus throughout His entire ministry.

I’m not a Bible scholar, but you don’t hear much or at all about these two guys much before this which is so cool to me. They chose to follow Jesus and be responsible with it on their own. It wasn’t handed to them.

This brings me to my point: we have to choose to be responsible before responsibility is given to us. Justus and Matthias were simple followers before the idea of being an apostle came up.

I often times wait around until someone asks me to be responsible with something. That’s never going to happen if nothing in my life shows that I’m responsible.

Here is my current example that lead me to this revelation.

Ever since I moved down to Gainesville a little less than a year and a half ago, I wanted to be plugged into a church. I used every excuse in the book not to (i.e. most of the ones I’d be interested are in Atlanta, I’m out of the country too often to be consistent. or I have no one to go with.) Yadda, yadda, yadda.

The one he was calling me to is called Grace Midtown which is a 50 minute commute. My logistical mine said, “Clay, you pass plenty of churches to get to that one. That doesn’t make sense. Go to one of those.” The Lord responded with, “I don’t always make sense. I want you there.”

I decided to take responsibility and go. I now plan my schedule, so Sunday mornings are free. I’d organize carpools, so all of us Gainesvillians who go to Grace Midtown can save on gas and not drive alone. I can’t go every Sunday because I am gone a lot, but I go whenever I can. It’s my church home.

It being so far, I was fearful of not being able to get involved. I could only commute one day a week which is Sunday morning. However, since I chose to be faithful and responsible in just going on Sundays, the Lord honored it and provided a way for me to be involved without driving there during the week!

Grace Midtown does House Churches which are essentially small groups that meet outside of Sunday mornings during the week. My friend, Beka asked me if I would be interested in co-leading a House Church in Gainesville for those of us who go to Grace. I jumped at the opportunity. It’s me, her, and two other people. We’ve been meeting for only three weeks, but it has grown every week since we started! I absolutely love the community we are building.

I chose to be responsible with the church God wanted me to go to. From there, he gave me more responsibility in the form of leading a House Church. Who knows what’s next? Whatever it is, I’m excited!

If you’re feeling stuck or without purpose, stop waiting around. Just choose something, do it with all of your heart, and be responsible with it. The Lord will open doors from there. I promise.

I am pleased to announce that I was fully funded for 2016 Fiscal Year which ended on September 30th with the help of my monthly and one-time supporters along with an anonymous $1,000 donation at the end! Seriously, whoever you are. I thank God for you regularly.

October 1st started the next Fiscal Year! Thank you to those who continued to support me. As of now, I’m about $100 short a month to be at my goal by September 30th, 2017. Currently, I work with five World Race Squads (about 220 missionaries altogether)! Please consider supporting me, so I can continue to be a logistical support for the missionaries we send on the field!
